Description

This lot features a pair of antique pince-nez glasses, characterized by a silver-finished metal frame and a side chain. The shape of the pince-nez is typical of models from the late 19th to early 20th century, recognizable by its rounded pads and fine, streamlined structure. The temples are absent, as is common with this type of frame, which attaches directly to the bridge of the nose. There is a chain composed of geometric links, allowing the accessory to be attached to clothing or a glasses holder. The visible side shows two rounded rectangular eye-rims, without inserted lenses.

The metal structure reveals a smooth surface with a slight patinated effect, suggesting authentic wear and past use. The overall color is silver-grey, without superfluous decorations, which evokes a sober and utilitarian style, common in antique optical accessories. The pince-nez mechanism is clearly visible, with a central spring allowing the frame to open and close to adjust to the nose. No markings, logos, or inscriptions are visible on the presented side.

The object's presentation on a gold-decorated box highlights the contrast between the sobriety of the metal frame and the refinement of the surrounding decor, accentuating the authentic and antique aspect of the piece. The clean contours and absence of lenses suggest an optical accessory intended either for repair, display, or use in a historical re-enactment.

Condition

Second-hand item sold as-is, showing traces of wear on the metal surface (slight patina and micro-scratches). No lenses inserted, general condition consistent with age and presumed use. Only the visible side has been checked.

Did you know? Pince-nez glasses were particularly popular between the 1880s and 1920s. They were appreciated for their simplicity and discretion, allowing glasses to be worn without temples and thus facilitating their temporary use for reading or precise activities.
