Visual Description

This old magazine is a copy of the French periodical "Dimanche Illustré," identifiable by the "D.I." logo at the top left of the cover, followed by the full title. The front page, dated July 15-20, 1944, features swimmer Palmyre Nakache, presented as "a symbol of resistance," with a large black and white photograph of a smiling sportswoman in a swimsuit, standing at the edge of a pool or aquatic structure. The typical layout of 1940s press is visible: large initial letters, framed sections, and an alternation of different fonts.

The dominant colors are those of period newsprint, with black printing, shades of gray, and a slight colored border (reddish hue) around the main photo. The paper has a matte appearance, characteristic of publications from this period, with a slightly fibrous texture and visible signs of wear on the upper edges, notably a folded corner.

Several precise inscriptions are legible on the cover: "150 against an army PALMYRE symbol of resistance," "World record holder NAKACHE," as well as page number mentions ("see pages 3, 4 and 5" or "see page 2"). The edition is numbered "N°55" and dated "15-20 juillet 1944," corresponding to a publication in the middle of World War II, reinforcing the historical dimension of the object.

The cover shows typical printing of old newspapers, with some grain and signs of age, but the photograph remains clear and all text is legible. No other elements (advertisements, back cover, or interior) are visible in this image.

Condition

This magazine is used and sold as is. The image shows a copy with moderate signs of wear: handling marks, a folded upper right corner, slight paper patina, but the cover remains well-preserved and legible.

Did you know? "Dimanche Illustré" was a popular French weekly launched in 1924, known for its photojournalism and striking covers. Palmyre Nakache, mentioned on the cover, was a renowned French swimmer and holder of several world records in the 1930s and 1940s, symbolizing sports resistance during the Occupation.
