Vintage Magazine Masters of the Universe N°3 The Monster 80s MOTU retro
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Old illustrated magazine, issue number 3 of the "Masters of the Universe" series, visible on the cover with the title "The Monster." This periodical boasts an 1980s aesthetic, with colorful and dynamic artwork typical of the Masters of the Universe (MOTU) license. The cover shows Skeletor in a close-up on the left, a menacing blue monster in the center, and the hero He-Man with his tiger Battle Cat on the bottom right, against a stylized rocky backdrop. The overall design is dominated by vibrant tones: turquoise blue, yellow, red, pink, and green, reinforcing the magazine's retro appeal.
The layout of the front cover is characteristic of children's publications from that era, with the word "SPECIAL" repeated at the top, the numbering N.3 on the left, and the "MAÎTRES DE L’UNIVERS" (MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE) logo in bold blue and red lettering. The episode title "LE MONSTRE" (THE MONSTER) is indicated in black, partially superimposed over the logo. "Mensuel" (monthly) and the price in French francs are visible on the spine. The publisher "euredif" is printed in blue on the bottom right.
The magazine shows visible signs of wear: blunted corners, scuffs on the spine, a scratch or abraded area on the lower right part of the cover (on the tiger), and handling marks on the surface. No major tears are visible on the displayed side, but the overall condition suggests frequent handling, typical of a used copy from this period.
The typography, imagery, and color palette are emblematic of MOTU licensed products distributed in France in the 80s, aimed at a young audience who enjoyed fantasy adventures and muscular superheroes. The graphic style is reminiscent of American comics and cartoons from the same period.
The visible side does not show a precise publication date or internal content, but all visual clues (graphics, price in francs, publisher, license) unequivocally identify this as a vintage children's magazine from the Masters of the Universe franchise, in its French version.

Did you know? The "Masters of the Universe" license was launched in 1981 by Mattel, before being adapted into an animated series and branched out into numerous merchandise, including magazines and comic books. In France, the first translated and licensed magazines helped popularize iconic characters like He-Man and Skeletor starting in the mid-80s.
