Description

This antique medal is an authentic "Brevet du nageur scolaire" (School Swimmer's Certificate), as indicated by the perfectly legible embossed inscription on the front. The medal has a slightly flared rectangular shape, with an integrated ring for a ribbon or cord. The upper part features a central medallion design: two stylized silhouettes of swimmers in motion, evoking the practice of swimming. The entire motif is in slight relief, allowing for good perception even with wear.

The metal has a grayish patina, typical of antique objects exposed to air or handled over the years. The granular appearance and visible traces of oxidation across the entire surface attest to its age and give the medal a distinct retro character. The graphic style, particularly the representation of the swimmers and the typography of the letters, suggests a mid-20th-century production, probably between the 1940s and 1960s, common for this type of school award in France.

The inscription "BREVET DU NAGEUR SCOLAIRE" is clearly engraved on the lower part, framed by an embossed cartouche. No other decorative motifs or manufacturer's markings are visible on the presented side. The medal is photographed against a black background, which highlights its reliefs and antique patina. The attachment system, located at the top, was probably used to wear it around the neck, typical of school sports distinctions of that era.
