Description

This antique medal features a patinated finish, characteristic of French academic awards from the early to mid-20th century. Circular in shape, it depicts a raised scene with two figures in classical attire: one seated, holding a parchment, and the other standing next to a sculpted bust. This motif evokes intellectual and artistic emulation, typical of medals awarded to deserving students by the City of Paris.

The perimeter of the medal is highlighted by a fine beaded frieze, accentuating the academic style. The central scene is finely detailed, showcasing the drapery of the clothing and elements of the decor such as the plinth and the scroll. The engraver's signature, legible at the bottom of the visible reverse, is "J. Escudero", guaranteeing careful execution by a renowned artist.

The main color is that of a metal with a grey patina, with darker nuances in the recesses of the relief, enhancing the depth of the scene. No enamel or bright colors are visible, which is consistent with the sober and solemn aesthetic of this type of award medal.

The medal is presented in a case with a black base and a purple inner lining, which highlights the piece while protecting it. No other elements or inscriptions are visible on the displayed side, apart from the engraver's signature. The overall style perfectly matches the iconography of student awards given in Parisian schools at a time when academic excellence was celebrated by such distinctions.

The contours of the medal are sharp, and the whole presents a beautiful homogeneity of patina, with no apparent chipping or major scratches on the visible side. The object testifies to quality craftsmanship, typical of official productions of the City of Paris.
