Vintage Louis Marsal 1893 Jewelers' Old Medal Bronze Green Orange Ribbon
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This antique medal features a classic round shape, adorned with finely crafted relief on its visible side. In the center, the inscription "A Mr Louis Marsal 1893" is clearly visible, surrounded by a laurel wreath. The upper part of the medallion is decorated with a female figure in relief, extending a wreath towards the central inscription, a symbol of honor and professional distinction.
The medal is suspended from a ceremonial ribbon in vibrant colors: a wide orange band framed by two green bands with thin black borders. This choice of colors, typical of French honorary decorations from the late 19th century, gives the whole a retro and elegant look. The ribbon is in good apparent condition, with no visible tears on the shown side.
Around the medallion is the inscription "Organisation spéciale des fabricants bijoutiers joailliers et des orfèvres" (Special Organization of Jewelry Manufacturers and Goldsmiths), which confirms its direct link to the jewelry and goldsmithing sector. The metalwork shows a beautiful antique patina, with a matte, slightly satin bronze appearance, typical of medals from this period.
The visible side shows no major impacts or deep scratches; some signs of use or slight oxidation are noticeable, which attests to its authenticity and age. The details of the relief remain very clear, particularly on the laurel wreath and the allegorical figure.
This type of medal was traditionally awarded during professional competitions or exhibitions, recognizing excellence in the jewelry and goldsmithing trades. The ensemble, with its original ribbon, constitutes a decorative and historical object with an authentic aesthetic.
