Description
This commemorative medal features a raised portrait of Henri Germain, identifiable by the raised inscription "HENRI GERMAIN FONDATEUR DU CREDIT LYONNAIS" around the edge. Henri Germain's finely detailed left profile occupies almost the entire visible surface. The medal has a bronze-colored finish with a gilded patina, a slightly satin surface, and visible signs of wear, including some light marks and micro-scratches that attest to its history. The engraver's name, "E. Pillet," is also legible on the lower left, confirming the signature of this renowned medalist.
The medal is presented in a burgundy velvet-lined case, which enhances its prestigious appearance. The contours of the portrait and the lettering are sharp, highlighting the relief work and the quality of execution. The edge of the medal is not visible in this photo, and only the obverse (main face) is shown.
The overall appearance of the object evokes a commemorative style typical of the late 19th or early 20th century, consistent with the period of activity of Henri Germain and Crédit Lyonnais. The medal has a uniform golden hue, without major chips, and retains a beautiful luster despite some visible handling marks on the surface.
The burgundy velvet background emphasizes the elegance of the presentation and suggests a ceremonial or honorary use. No other decoration or motif is visible on this face, apart from the portrait and inscriptions. The medal appears to be of classic round format, with a well-defined relief and a careful finish.
Condition
Second-hand item, sold as is. The obverse shows signs of handling, some superficial marks, and a slight patina typical of medals from this era. The burgundy velvet case is visible and appears to be in good overall condition, with no major apparent defects.
