Description

This old, circular medal features detailed relief on its visible side. It boasts a uniform bronze hue, with a matte, slightly patinated surface, typical of official medals from the era. The embossed inscription "TRIBUNAUX DE COMMERCE" (Commercial Courts) encircles the upper part, while "CONGRÈS NATIONAL" (National Congress) appears at the bottom. In the center, a sculpted representation of two robed figures, standing and holding each other by the shoulder, evokes the allegory of Justice or Commercial Law. Two coats of arms are also visible: one depicts a stylized ship, the other a cross, symbols frequently associated with the history of commerce and French judicial institutions.

The medal shows sharp contours, with precise relief on the motifs and text. The outer edge is regular, without additional decoration. The graphic style and typography suggest it was made in the second half of the 20th century, consistent with the "vintage" keyword. No manufacturer or engraver is visible on the presented side.

The visible patina on the surface accentuates the medal's antique character, providing an elegant brownish hue. No major chips, cracks, or deep scratches are observable on the photographed side: only a few micro-traces of wear are perceptible, indicating moderate handling and careful storage. The medal appears perfectly preserved for its age.

The overall visual evokes the solemnity of institutional objects presented during official ceremonies: this medal could have been awarded during a national congress of commercial courts in France, to a member or an honored guest. The quality of the relief, the legibility of the inscriptions, and the finesse of the symbols attest to precise casting or striking work.

This type of medal, due to its bronze composition (according to the keywords), has good durability and develops a characteristic patina, prized by enthusiasts of historical and decorative objects. Its presence on a desk, a shelf, or in a display case can recall the importance of commercial law in French economic history.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The visible side is in very good general condition, with an even patina and slight superficial traces of wear.

Did you know? The first law establishing commercial courts in France dates back to 1807, under Napoleon I. These specialized jurisdictions rule on disputes between merchants and are composed of judges elected from among professionals in the sector. National congresses regularly bring members together to discuss developments in commercial law.
