Description

This antique religious medal features a raised portrait of Pope Pius XI, identified by the inscription "PIUS XI" on the left and "PONT. MAX." on the right, in clearly legible capital letters. The obverse depicts a bas-relief bust of the pontiff, dressed in his pontifical vestments. The medal has a classic round shape, with a metal ring at the top for suspension or wearing as a pendant.

The medal has a silver-like finish, slightly patinated, with signs of wear and surface tarnishing revealing matte grey nuances and some golden or oxidized traces, typical of an old object. The visible wear around the face, on the headwear, and the reliefs of the garment highlights its age and vintage authenticity.

The upper bail, rounded and sturdy, is solidly attached and allows the medal to be easily hung on a chain, a key ring, or a rosary. The engraving of the portrait and inscriptions remains clear, although some scratches and signs of use are visible on the front part.

The style of the portrait and the typography of the inscriptions are characteristic of religious artifacts from the first third of the 20th century, with a sober and traditional aesthetic typical of Catholic medals from that period. No additional decoration or ornamental motif is visible on this side, emphasizing the pontifical figure.

Presented here on a carved wooden stand, the medal stands out for its simplicity and the symbolic power of its effigy. This piece is suitable for religious use, as a pendant, prayer object, or family heritage item.
