Description

This antique religious medal features a classic round shape with a silver-toned metallic finish. On the visible side, it bears the embossed portrait of Saint Bernadette Soubirous in a nun's habit, accompanied by the perfectly legible inscription: "B. BERNADETTE SOUBIROUS NEVERS". The relief work highlights the facial features and the folds of the veil, typical of 20th-century devotional medals. The attachment ring, also visible, allows it to be worn as a pendant or attached to a rosary.

The surface of the medal shows an authentic patina, with matte and shiny reflections depending on the angle of the light. No superfluous decoration is present on the visible part, which reinforces the sober and devotional aspect of the object. The visible gray cord is not attached to the medal but is used here for presentation. The reverse side is not visible and will therefore not be described.

The engraving style and typography of the letters suggest manufacturing in the mid or second half of the 20th century, without being able to date it more precisely. This type of medal was commonly given during pilgrimages to Nevers or Lourdes, or presented during religious ceremonies.

Condition

Used item sold as is: the medal shows a slight patina of use, with no major apparent defects on the visible side. The reliefs remain clear and the inscriptions perfectly legible.

Did you know? Saint Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879) is known for her Marian apparitions in Lourdes in 1858. After entering the order, she spent the end of her life at the Saint-Gildard convent in Nevers, where her body still rests today. Medals bearing her effigy are very common in France, especially in places of pilgrimage.
