Miraculous Virgin Mary medal old metal, vintage Catholic religious pendant
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This religious pendant presented here is an oval metal Miraculous Medal with a patinated appearance. On the visible side, the medal features a detailed relief depicting the Virgin Mary standing, with arms open and slightly spread. The perimeter is adorned with a raised inscription, typical of so-called "miraculous" medals: this legend surrounds the figure and is inscribed in an ancient epigraphic style, with attention to the details of the lettering.
The surface of the pendant has a matte finish, marked by a gray patina and some traces of oxidation, characteristic of an old metal. The top bail allows for easy suspension on a chain or cord. The general shape is oval, the edges are finely molded, and the medal displays a certain relief, particularly in the folds of the Virgin's clothing and the base under her feet.
The representation of the Miraculous Virgin, recognizable by her posture and the arrangement of her hands, is typical of French religious productions from the early to mid-20th century. The scene and graphic style are faithful to classical Catholic iconography, which allows the object to be identified as a popular devotional medal.
The visible colors are dominated by metallic gray, with darker nuances in the hollows and a slight shine on the prominent reliefs, which indicate authentic wear. No major defects are visible on the presented side, apart from the wear and tear of use which gives the medal its vintage charm and authenticity.
The pendant is photographed resting on an ornate antique box, which highlights its ancient and religious character. No manufacturer's marking or hallmark is legible on the visible side.
