Vintage Miraculous Medal, antique Catholic religious pendant
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This oval religious medal depicts the Virgin Mary in relief, with open arms and a halo, following the iconographic tradition of the "Miraculous" medal. The object is made of metal, as indicated by the keywords, and features a slightly patinated matte finish, typical of antique or vintage productions. The visible side shows a detailed representation of the Virgin, surrounded by an embossed inscription along the edge of the medal. The text, although partially legible in the photo, likely repeats the classic invocation of the Miraculous Medal ("O Mary conceived without sin..."), but only the beginning is clearly visible in the image.
The pendant has an integrated ring, also made of metal, allowing it to be worn as a necklace or attached to a rosary. The relief of the Virgin and the surface treatment show some signs of wear and slight marks, indicating prior use and enhancing its vintage character. The medal has a uniform silver tone, with no visible gilding or enamel on this side.
The overall shape is oval, slightly convex on the obverse, with clear contours. The details of the drapery, face, and halo are well defined despite uniform wear. The peripheral inscription is in regular capital letters, characteristic of 20th-century French religious medals. No hallmarks, signatures, or manufacturer's marks are visible on the displayed side.
The object is photographed on antique carved wooden furniture, which highlights its traditional and sacred aspect. The grazing light accentuates the relief and patina of the metal. No major chips or apparent deformation are visible on this side, but the surface shows micro-scratches and slight localized oxidation.
This religious pendant, typical of Catholic devotional objects, is often worn for its spiritual value as well as its vintage aesthetic. The Miraculous Medal is a widely used Marian symbol, particularly in France, and remains a classic of religious jewelry.
