Vintage Byrrh miniature with lion label, rare French alcohol
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This listing is for an antique Byrrh mignonette, as shown in the photo. It is a small dark glass bottle with a red screw cap, typical of the miniature alcohol formats distributed in France. The original label, predominantly beige paper with a red frame and classic ornamentation, features "BYRRH" in large red letters, surmounted by a stylized lion's head motif. Two reclining lions are also depicted in the center of the label, an emblematic graphic element of the Byrrh brand.
The mignonette has an authentically vintage appearance, with visible signs of aging on the label: discoloration, signs of time, slight tears at the edges. The partially legible text states "Élevé avec des vins vieux dans nos chais à Thuir – cœur du pays catalan" (Aged with old wines in our cellars in Thuir – heart of the Catalan country), highlighting the product's geographical origin. The stylistic elements, typography, and general patina suggest production dating from the mid to late 20th century, without being able to specify the exact year.
The bottle has a classic cylindrical shape, with a straight base and an elongated neck. The glass has a smooth surface, with no added decoration. No volume is visually indicated on the presented side, in accordance with the regulations for mignonettes of that era. The red, screw-on cap shows some superficial traces of wear consistent with the object's age.
The label features several graphic details, including an ornamental frame, stylized floral motifs, and printed handwritten mentions at the bottom of the label. The main inscriptions remain legible despite the wear, which gives this mignonette a particular interest for identification and display.
The visible side does not show any remaining liquid content, nor specific marks on the base or neck other than the screwed-on cap. The whole displays a beautiful visual authenticity, ideal for retro decoration or recreating a period bar.
