Vintage SOLO mechanical watch 15 jewels to restore? dial patinated
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This antique mechanical watch from the brand SOLO features a typical design of vintage manual-winding models. The round dial, displaying "SOLO 15 JEWELS," is protected by glass showing several visible scratches and signs of wear. The Arabic numerals are applied in relief, using a recognizable retro typography. The hands, one of which is partially misaligned, stand out with their classic shape, while a small seconds sub-dial is integrated at 6 o'clock. The knurled crown is located at 3 o'clock, typical of manual-winding wristwatches from the mid-20th century period.
The rounded case has a metallic-looking finish. The overall patina testifies to its age, with traces of oxidation and pronounced wear on the lugs and around the case. The hour markers are clearly visible, despite the presence of dust or deposits under the glass, reinforcing the authentic character of this piece intended for restoration.
The light-colored dial, probably white originally, now displays grayish and yellowed nuances, typical of an old mechanical watch exposed to air and light. The numerals and hands contrast with the background, making it easy to read despite the wear. No strap is visible in the photo; the watch is presented as is, placed on a wooden stand, which highlights its original structure.
The inscription "ANTIMAGNETIC" in red is also visible, confirming a sought-after technical characteristic of mechanical watches from the 20th century. The entire object clearly evokes vintage manufacturing, probably from the 1950s to 1970s, although the exact decade cannot be confirmed without further evidence.
Condition
This SOLO mechanical watch is sold used, as is, with the movement needing restoration. Multiple signs of use, scratches on the glass, marked patina, and visible wear on the case are noted. The absence of a strap should be noted. The item is intended for repair, restoration, or display as a collectible watch piece.
Did you know? The "15 JEWELS" inscription indicates that the watch's mechanical movement contains 15 synthetic rubies, used to reduce friction and improve the longevity of the mechanism. This standard was common on quality mechanical watches in the mid-20th century, particularly in European and Soviet watchmaking.
