Description

This antique mechanical watch features a distinctive square shape, typical of some watch productions from the mid-20th century. The case, with its patinated golden appearance, shows marked edges and a robust structure, while the lateral winding crown is clearly visible on the right. The dial has a light tint, now marked by a veil of wear and traces of oxidation, testifying to its age and history. The hour markers are drawn as golden bâtonnet hands, with a minimalist layout, and the inscription "17 RUBIS" is clearly visible at the bottom of the dial, indicating a 17-jewel movement — a standard of quality for vintage mechanical watches.

The bezel has a golden finish, the surface of which shows signs of wear, scratches, and an irregular patina, enhancing its retro character. Two prominent rectangular attachments, at the top and bottom, suggest a fastening system for a strap, although only the case is visible here. The hour and minute hands are positioned in the center, in a classic style, but appear partially oxidized or tarnished by time.

On the visible face, the protective glass shows traces, scratches, and fogging, reinforcing the restoration potential of the piece. No brand logo is discernible on this face, which is sometimes the case on old watches of artisanal manufacture or small series. The watch is placed on a decorative stand with a floral relief pattern, also golden in color, which is not included in the sale but enhances the object.

This timepiece, with its refined design and mechanical construction, is fully in line with the tradition of vintage manual-winding watches. The mention "17 rubies" attests to a movement designed for durability and precision, reflecting an era when mechanical quality was central.

The watch shows significant visual wear, with many signs of time: scratches on the case, oxidation on the hands, significant wear on the dial and glass. It should be considered an ideal base for restoration or for display in a showcase of antique pieces.

Condition

Used item, sold as is, to be restored. Traces of wear, scratches, oxidation, and pronounced patina visible on all exposed parts.

Did you know? The mention "17 jewels" on a mechanical watch indicates the use of 17 synthetic stones as bearings in the movement, limiting friction and wear. This configuration remained the standard for quality mechanical watches for a long time, particularly between the 1940s and 1970s.
