Vintage Porta mechanical watch 15 rubies black dial Art Deco parts
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Old mechanical watch by Porta, typical of the Art Deco style, evident in its rectangular case and the geometric aesthetic of its dial. The black dial has a matte finish, enhanced by golden indices and stylized Roman numerals (XII and VI) at the top and bottom. The hands, also golden, are bâton-type, and the central seconds hand is not visible in this view. The inscription "Porta" appears in cursive letters below the XII marker, and "15 RUBIS" is inscribed in gold at the bottom of the dial. The minute track is defined by two golden rectangular frames, accentuating the clean graphic design characteristic of the first half of the 20th century.
The case has a metallic appearance, patinated and marked by visible signs of wear, particularly on the edges and around the dial. The notched crown, located on the right, indicates a manual winding mechanism. The overall condition suggests intensive use or long-term storage, with traces of oxidation and scratches on the exposed face. No strap is visible in this photo.
The watch is photographed resting on a varnished wooden box with gold decoration, which is not included in the sale (present only in the background). No case back, internal movement, or additional markings are visible in this view. The item is offered as a spare part or for restoration, due to its apparent condition and the absence of a strap.
This model perfectly illustrates the Art Deco influence with its angular lines, sobriety, and the elegance of its gold/black contrasts. The mention "15 rubis" indicates the presence of synthetic rubies in the movement, traditionally used to reduce wear on the axles and pivots in mechanical watches.
Condition
Used item, sold as is, with visible wear: scratches, traces of oxidation, finish imperfections on the dial and case. No guarantee of function. Ideal for parts or restoration.
Did you know? The Porta brand, of Swiss or German origin depending on the model, produced mechanical watches between the two world wars and up to the 1950s. The use of 15 jewels in the movement was a standard of quality for mechanical watches of that era, ensuring better longevity of internal components by reducing friction.
