Vintage rectangular mechanical watch, old gold dial, for parts
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Old rectangular mechanical watch, presented here with its visible dial in a front view. The dial shows a metal finish with a patinated appearance, marked by oxidation traces and visible signs of wear on the surface. The hour markers are applied in relief, in gold color, with an alternation of long and short strokes, highlighting a refined style typical of mid-20th century watches. Two golden hands (hours and minutes) are present, of a simple and slender style, also showing signs of wear.
The winding crown, positioned on the right, is generously sized, finely notched and gilded, in a classic style of old mechanical watches. The case, with a slightly curved rectangular shape, has a matte finish and rounded corners. No logo or brand inscription is clearly legible on the visible part of the dial. The strap is not visible in this photo; only the case is highlighted.
The watch is placed on a small carved wooden cabinet or box, with an old patina, which is not included in the sale but enhances the vintage character of the piece. The dial shows signs of age: scratches, oxidation marks, and a general tarnished appearance. This type of wear is typical of vintage mechanical watches intended for restoration or for parts.
The general style evokes productions from the 1950s to the 1970s, with a sober, geometric and functional aesthetic. The absence of numbers on the dial and the choice of raised gold markers reinforce the retro aspect of the watch. The prominent winder is characteristic of manual winding mechanical models.
This rectangular mechanical watch bears witness to a utilitarian design, conceived for robustness and simplicity of use. The dial with a golden finish, although marked by time, retains a certain period elegance. No background, internal mechanism or back are visible in this image.

Did you know? Manual-winding mechanical watches dominated the watch market until the advent of quartz in the 1970s. Their mechanism is based on a mainspring that needs to be wound regularly, a technique used for several centuries in traditional watchmaking.
