Vintage Merit mechanical watch movement gold dial 17 jewels parts
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot features a vintage mechanical watch movement from the Merit brand, offered here for parts or restoration. The visible dial has a silver finish with a marbled texture, punctuated by raised gilded applied numerals. "MERIT" is inscribed below the 12 o'clock marker, while the lower part of the dial reads "17 JEWELS" and "ANTIBLOC", characteristic markings of quality mechanical watch movements designed to limit wear and improve accuracy. The dial is round, mounted on a hexagonal plate, a detail typical of certain mid-20th century wristwatches.
The visual appearance reveals a patina marked by time, with traces of greenish oxidation, particularly near the 8 o'clock marker, and visible alterations on the dial surface. The hands are absent, leaving the center pinion visible. The case visible in the photo has a metallic finish, with signs of wear and missing material on the lower part.
The movement is photographed resting on a wooden box, highlighting the contrast between the aged texture of the dial and the golden gleam of the hour markers. No back, side, or other parts of the movement are visible, which limits observation to the elements described above.
This type of manual-winding mechanical movement, identified by the "17 jewels" marking, indicates a construction with 17 jewels serving as pivots for the axles, which is a recognized standard for quality calibers of that era. The general style and inscriptions suggest production from the 1950s to the 1970s, a period when the Merit brand was active in the international watch market.
Condition
This watch movement is used, sold as is, for spare parts or restoration. It shows signs of wear, oxidation, and visible missing parts. Please examine the photo carefully to assess the exact condition.
Did you know? The "17 jewels" marking on a mechanical movement indicates the presence of 17 synthetic rubies used as bearings in the most important friction points. These precious stones, introduced in watchmaking at the beginning of the 20th century, increase the durability and precision of mechanical watches.
