SWISS Vintage mechanical watch movement, women's dial to restore, old
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot features a vintage mechanical watch movement, clearly intended for a ladies' wristwatch. The item, visible in the photo, is distinguished by its round dial, with a patinated surface marked by time. The dial displays large, raised Arabic numerals, gold or copper-colored, for hours 12, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10, while the remaining indices are marked by small triangles. There is a single hand—likely the hour or minute hand—centered. The inscription "SWISS" is clearly legible below the numeral 6, referencing the Swiss origin of the mechanism, a traditional guarantee of watchmaking quality.
The dial surface presents a matte finish with an aged appearance, with visible oxidation marks, stains, and scratches across the entire front face. The dial's edge is irregular, suggesting disassembly or the absence of a case and crystal. No other parts of the mechanism, such as a strap or crown, are visible in this view. The general style, typical of mechanical watches from the mid-20th century, evokes an era where design emphasized legibility and robustness.
The dial is displayed on a deep red fabric, accompanied by a seashell and a small vase of flowers, which highlights its decorative aspect and accentuates the light, almost ivory, hue of the dial. The numerals and inscription subtly contrast with the overall patina, enhancing the retro and authentic effect of the piece.
This movement is sold as is, for restoration or for use in repair projects, watchmaking upcycling, or vintage decoration. The absence of a case, second hand, and strap is clearly visible. No brand markings other than "SWISS" appear on the exposed face.
The compact shape and typography of the dial are perfectly suited for a ladies' watch, in a sober and timeless style. This type of piece can also serve as a decorative object, a base for an artistic creation, or a source of spare parts for antique watchmaking.
Condition
Used item, sold as is for restoration. Numerous traces of wear, oxidation, dirt, and visible scratches. Missing or incomplete hand, case and strap absent. Carefully examine the photos to assess the actual condition of the movement.
Did you know? The term "Swiss Made" or "SWISS" on a dial guarantees that the movement was assembled and controlled in Switzerland, according to strict criteria defined as early as 1886. Swiss mechanical watches are renowned for their precision and reliability and remain a benchmark worldwide, even for old or restorable pieces.
