Description
This document, visible in the photo, is an old bond issued by the company "Verrerie Souchon-Neuvesel" (abbreviated VSN), dated June 1, 1928. It is a "Bearer Bond of Five Hundred Francs 6½%", as indicated by the text printed at the top of the document. The certificate is presented in a large, rectangular format, with a decorative blue border featuring geometric patterns typical of the 1920s. The center of the document displays the company name in blue characters, accompanied by the red "VSN" logo repeated several times, particularly on the detachable coupons at the bottom.
The visible side includes the main part of the bond, along with a series of numbered coupons at the bottom, each bearing the same bond number (006,222) and the red VSN logo. The main text is in French and specifies the company's capital, the address of the registered office in Lyon, and the face value of the security. Printed signatures of administrators, legal notices, and fine borders are also visible, with a graphic aesthetic consistent with financial documents from the interwar period.
The paper shows a slight patina, typical of old documents, with a slightly ivory tint and some visible signs of wear on the edges. The detachable coupons, numbered 17 to 50, are all still attached, which enhances the historical interest of this period document. No details are visible on the back or on other unshown sides.
The overall design is typical of French bonds from the first half of the 20th century, with blue printing on thick paper. The frieze pattern and the appearance of the paper confirm the authentic and vintage character of this financial document. The entire document is clearly legible, with crisp inscriptions and a presentation consistent with the era of issue.
This type of certificate was intended to guarantee a financial investment, with coupons to be cut off to collect interest. The item is displayed on dark wooden furniture, which is not included in the sale and does not affect the condition of the document.
Condition
Used document, sold as is. Slight signs of wear visible on the edges and period patina. The main inscriptions and coupons are legible; the whole remains in good visual condition for a document of this period.
Did you know? Verrerie Souchon-Neuvesel (VSN), founded in the 19th century, was one of the companies that gave rise to the French glass group that later became BSN and then Danone. Bearer bonds were commonly used in France until the mid-20th century to finance industrial companies, and each coupon represented an interest payment on a fixed date.
