Description

The ovoid body of the ostrich egg displays its natural cream hue, punctuated by the characteristic grain of the shell. It is encased in a silver-plated mount consisting of a neck with a screw-on stopper, a wide upper band, ornate vertical appliques, and a dark circular base forming a pedestal.

The metal decoration combines foliate motifs, openwork scrollwork, raised dots, beaded cabochons, and dangling elements. The lateral handles feature a decorative chain with oval links, contributing to its appearance as a cabinet and curiosity object.

The mount showcases fine relief work, with alternating smooth, openwork, and repoussé sections. The ensemble retains a strong decorative presence, somewhere between a naturalia object and a table or display cabinet ornament.

Context
