Description

This document, visible in the photo, is an original medical prescription dated November 19, 1951. The paper's header identifies it as from the laboratory of Doctor Ranque, a medical biologist, located at 16 rue Dragon in Marseille. The appearance of the paper is typical of medical administrative documents from the mid-20th century in France, with black print on an off-white background. Several printed sections at the top of the document detail the types of examinations offered by the laboratory: chemical and blood tests, serological reactions, hormonal assays, various analyses, etc.

The upper left section lists the available examinations, while the right section specifies other specialized analyses. The central header includes the doctor's name, specialty, laboratory address, and the telephone numbers of the era ("Dragon 48-42" and "48-47"). Two ministerial approvals are also present, attesting to the laboratory's compliance with the legislation of the time.

In the center of the document, the handwritten section indicates examination number 253107, precisely dated November 19, 1951, intended for a "Mademoiselle Blanc," and signed in blue ink by Doctor R. Ranque. The handwriting is legible and authenticates the strictly individual nature of this prescription. An annotation "lal" appears in blue in the upper left, with no clarification of its meaning.

The paper has a fine texture, typical of old administrative papers, with a slight patina visible on the edges. No major tears or stains are visible on the displayed side. The corners are clean, the layout is regular, and the inscriptions remain perfectly legible, highlighting the good preservation of this document over 70 years old.

The graphic style, typography, and presentation are characteristic of French medical documents from the post-war period, an era when laboratory medicine was undergoing increasing structuring. This type of item is particularly interesting for its documentary value and the richness of its information on medical and biological practice in France in the early 1950s.

Condition

Used item sold as is. The document shows light wear consistent with its age, but the visible side is clean, with no notable tears or stains. The handwritten and printed inscriptions remain perfectly legible.

Did you know? Private medical biology laboratories, such as Dr. Ranque's in Marseille, were accredited by the Ministry of Health starting in the 1940s. They played a key role in democratizing laboratory examinations in France, at a time when medical biology was rapidly specializing and becoming institutionalized after World War II.
