AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Pair of antique bronze candlesticks, 19th century, single-light, adorned with hanging chains, ornate cylindrical sockets, and scalloped bobeches. A decorative composition with pronounced relief, supported by a tripod base with volutes.
Description
This pair of candlesticks features a bronze construction with a golden brown patina, with darker nuances in the recesses and warm reflections on the raised areas. Each piece rests on a tripod base with curved feet, ending in stylized supports, and rises on a molded central stem.
The upper part consists of a cylindrical socket with chased decoration, holding the candle, surmounting a circular scalloped bobeche. Decorative hanging chains punctuate the ensemble and accentuate the verticality of the silhouette. The scrollwork decorations, small engraved motifs, and moldings give the whole a very ornamental presence, typical of 19th-century bronze decorative objects.
Context
These candlesticks are part of the 19th-century decorative tradition, a period during which bronze was widely used for furniture, lighting, candelabra, and fireplace accessories. The taste for architectural profiles, ornamental chains, cut-out bobeches, and scrolled feet evokes a historicist aesthetic, attentive to relief, symmetry, and decorative effect.
Condition
Antique used item, sold as is. Pronounced wear patina, traces of oxidation, surface wear, small rubbing, and age-related marks are visible. Some irregularities in color and old deposits in the recesses of the decoration contribute to the antique character of the ensemble. The pair retains a beautiful decorative presence.
