Description

This cross-shaped pendant, presented here, is distinguished by its massive appearance and raw style, typical of antique pieces. The piece is made of metal, according to the keywords provided, and features a patinated finish, with visible irregularities across the surface, highlighting an artisanal character or ancient manufacture. The cross displays a rectilinear outline with a double-frame effect, and an openwork circular central motif that goes all the way through the piece.

The visible side shows a polished surface, but marked by time, with irregular reliefs and a granular texture, probably obtained by molding or hammering. The perimeter of the cross is highlighted by a slight relief, while the interior reveals a pattern of recessed dots. The bail, integrated into the upper part, is wide and robust, allowing the pendant to be easily suspended from a chain or thick cord.

The general hue of the metal is a matte grey nuanced with beige reflections, evoking an ancient alloy or natural oxidation. No hallmark, signature, or inscription is visible on the exposed side. The cross is photographed on a raw wooden stand, accompanied by small dried flowers, which highlights its authentic style and its antique jewelry appearance.

The style of this pendant clearly evokes mid-20th century productions, and it falls within the vintage trend of the 1950s. Its geometric shape and surface work recall post-war religious or ethnic jewelry, prized for its simplicity and solidity.

The openwork cross in the center gives it an additional decorative dimension, while reinforcing its traditional appearance. The whole gives an impression of authenticity, reinforced by the absence of any superfluous decoration and by the patina of the metal visible in the photo.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The whole shows oxidation marks, signs of wear, and a homogeneous patina, characteristic of antique jewelry kept in stock (deadstock). No major cracks or chips are visible on the presented side.

Did you know? Openwork cross pendants were frequently made of metal in the 1950s, a period during which costume jewelry became democratized thanks to new industrial molding processes. This type of jewelry was often worn for both spiritual reasons and for its sober and timeless aesthetic.
