Description

This antique mantel clock features remarkable ornamental work, typical of the late 19th or very early 20th century, with an aesthetic inspired by the gilded bronze style. The main body, with its curved and richly decorated shape, displays a patinated metallic appearance, its surface showing brown and golden nuances, suggesting an effect of old gilding or worked bronze. The motifs are abundant, with volutes, foliage, and medallion reliefs, highlighting the decorative influence of the era.

The round dial, placed in the center, is encircled with a beaded decoration and displays black Roman numerals on a white background, typical of clocks from the period. Two holes are visible on the dial for winding, as well as two classic-shaped black metal hands. Slight surface wear and some marks of time are visible, enhancing the authentic character of the piece.

On the upper left part, a female figurine in relief completes the ensemble. This figure, in a long, elaborate dress, stands and seems to be carrying an object in her arms (flowers or a sheaf of wheat), evoking a bucolic or allegorical scene. The entire composition is surmounted by an openwork and symmetrical decoration, reminiscent of French gilded bronze ornaments from the late 19th century.

The base of the mantel clock is particularly elaborate, with curves and floral motifs highlighting Rococo or Napoleon III inspiration. The visible feet are molded and elegantly turned, ensuring the stability of the clock while contributing to its decorative appearance.
