Description

This listing is for a small, rectangular antique advertising tin, as shown in the photo. The top surface features a design typical of pharmaceutical packaging from the early to mid-20th century, with white lettering on a dark background. The tin clearly displays "PASTILLES COMPRIMÉES" at the top, followed by the brand "G. VALEMBOIS" in the center, with "PUR" just below. The text "Laisser fondre une pastille dans la bouche" (Let a pastille dissolve in the mouth) also appears at the bottom, indicating its use as a lozenge or a medicated candy to be sucked.

The surface of the tin shows significant signs of use and patina, with oxidation and flaking visible across the entire presented face. The finish reveals a speckled effect, showing the metal color beneath the original lacquer or paint layer. The edges are rounded, typical of pastille or candy tins from that era.

The overall graphics, font style, and general presentation suggest a manufacturing date between the 1920s and 1950s, a period during which this type of metal packaging was commonly used for pharmaceutical products or medicinal confectionery.

The mention "PRIX : 1.50" (PRICE: 1.50) is also visible at the bottom, providing an indication of its era and commercial purpose. No other decorative motifs are visible on the presented side; the overall design remains sober and utilitarian, true to the object's advertising and informative function.

The compact size of the tin, its marked patina, and its partially faded inscriptions attest to its authenticity and past use. No other decorative or mechanical elements are visible on the shown side.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Numerous signs of wear, scratches, and paint chips, age-related patina across the entire visible surface. Inscriptions are partially faded but still partly legible. See photo for exact condition.

Did you know? Advertising metal tins for pastilles or tablets were common in the first half of the 20th century, both for confectionery and pharmaceutical specialties. They were often kept and reused by households, which explains their frequent presence in the antique market today.
