Description

Vintage Moroccan coin, visible in the photo, with a face value of 1 Dirham and dated 1974 (1394 in the Hijri calendar). The reverse shows the coat of arms of Morocco in the center, framed by two rampant lions and surmounted by a five-pointed star surrounded by a radiating sun. The inscription "1974 – 1394" is clearly visible on the upper part, along with Arabic legends and the number "1" at the bottom of the coin. The surface of the coin displays a homogeneous grayish patina, typical of old circulation, and reveals slight signs of wear on the raised parts, while maintaining the legibility of the main motifs.

The style of the coin is characteristic of 20th-century Moroccan numismatics, with official iconography and bilingual inscriptions (Arabic and Western numerals). The visible edges are finely milled, a detail commonly observed on minted coins for better grip and security against counterfeiting. No decorative details are visible on the rim, which reinforces the official and institutional aspect of this monetary issue.

The coin is placed on an intense blue cushion that highlights its silvery nuances and engraved details. In the background, a golden pocket watch and a wooden structure provide an elegant context without interfering with the precise observation of the coin. No reverse side is visible in the photo; only the main side (obverse) is described here.

The mention "Al-Hassan" in the keywords refers to the reign of King Hassan II, under whom this coin was minted. The Arabic inscriptions and the dual dating (Gregorian and Hijri calendars) are elements sought after by collectors of North African and Arab world coins.

Visually, the coin shows regular wear with some handling marks, without visible chips or deep scratches on the front face. It retains good legibility, ideal for identifying its historical and numismatic details.

Condition

Did you know? The Moroccan Dirham was introduced in 1960 to replace the Moroccan franc. The coat of arms visible on this coin was adopted in 1957 and symbolizes the Moroccan monarchy, with the green star representing the Seal of Solomon, a central symbol of national identity.
