Vintage Olympic St. Saulvien football enamel pin old sports badge
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This antique pin features a stylized footballer in action, kicking a yellow ball, with the inscription "OLYMPIC St SAULVIEN" in black enameled letters. The piece has an original shape, evoking the number 1, which highlights the player and the written text. The background has a shiny metallic appearance, probably a chrome or nickel finish, while the colored areas are made of enamel in different shades: white for the jersey, red for the shorts and socks, black for the shoes and details, and yellow for the ball. The player's shoulders feature small multicolored dots, adding a graphic touch typical of 80s-90s sports pins.
The visible front of the pin shows no apparent manufacturer's logo, but the overall piece is characteristic of commemorative or associative badges distributed at local or regional sporting events in France. The pin's outlines are sharp, with some visible micro-traces of wear or oxidation, particularly on the left edge, indicating past use. The overall appearance remains very legible and decorative.
The player's graphics, with simple lines and bright colors, recall the popular aesthetic of promotional items related to amateur or school football from the late 20th century. This type of pin was frequently offered at tournaments or as a souvenir for members of sports clubs, in this case, that of St Saulvien, a commune or local club. The inscription "OLYMPIC" suggests a symbolic link to the spirit of the Olympic Games or a local Olympic tournament, without any official connection to the International Olympic Committee.
The reverse is not visible in the photo, but the front is entirely flat, without significant relief, apart from the slight curvature of the metal and enameled areas. No major defects are to be reported on the decorative part, apart from a few small points of wear, typical of a vintage pin.
Condition
Used item, sold as is, with slight signs of wear visible on the front, including micro-scratches and a small oxidation spot on the top left. The enamel colors remain vibrant and the inscriptions perfectly legible.
Did you know? The pin, very popular in France in the 80s and 90s, became an emblematic object during major sporting events, particularly during the 1998 World Cup and the Olympic Games. Many local clubs had their own models made to commemorate tournaments or mark belonging to a team.
