Description

This old document is a handwritten or printed technical plan, presenting a detailed layout of a portion of the Marseille coastline, specifically in the area of the Pharo cove and the Pharo garden. The plan, drawn in black ink on light-colored paper, highlights the port area and its immediate surroundings. The graphic elements are simple and legible, typical of urban planning or civil engineering plans from the early to mid-20th century.

In the center of the plan, a rectangular area is highlighted in red ink, with the legible handwritten mention: "Société Nouvelle Chantiers Maritimes Marseille Emplacement n°2 2.085 m²". This annotation suggests a public works or hydraulic development project, probably related to port or industrial infrastructure in the 1930s-40s, a period consistent with the graphic style and aesthetics of the document.

Topographical indications, such as "Jardin du Pharo" (Pharo Garden), "Anse du Pharo" (Pharo Cove), and "Limite du Domaine Public Maritime" (Boundary of the Public Maritime Domain), are clearly visible. The document also includes a stylized "Nord" (North) direction marker, as well as a graphic scale indicated as "1/500e" in the bottom right. Several buildings and roads are sketched, with a characteristic layout of urban development or plot plans.

The paper shows a visible vertical fold line in the center, attesting to its age and probable storage in a bundle or folder. The edges show signs of slight wear, with no apparent tears on the visible side. The black and red ink remains well contrasted, ensuring good legibility of essential information.

This type of plan is sought after for its documentary and heritage value, illustrating the evolution of maritime infrastructure and public works in Marseille during the interwar period or immediate post-war era. The absence of modern mentions and the handwritten typography place this document in an authentically vintage context.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Visible fold marks and slight signs of wear, but overall very good legibility of the plan and annotations.
