Original Drawing Plan Scalextric Dinky Toys Vintage 60s Car Paper
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This document features an original hand-drawn design of a racing car, viewed from the front, with a style reminiscent of iconic Scalextric or Dinky Toys models. The sketch is done on aged, yellowed paper and shows a streamlined automobile with a prominent central red stripe, typical of racing car liveries from the 1960s. The outlines are drawn in pencil, with accentuated details on the headlights, wheels, and air intakes, highlighting a certain pursuit of realism in the representation.
The sheet shows an irregular cut and a visible gap at the bottom, which emphasizes the authenticity of this period design plan. There are also some traces of handling, with slight marks and stains, as well as a natural patina related to the age of the support. The paper appears to have been used as a working or study basis, likely intended for the creation or customization of miniature car models, in connection with the Scalextric or Dinky Toys universes, two major references in vintage toy cars.
The drawing highlights the front of the car, with a wide grille and two distinct headlamps. The hand-applied red stripe crosses the hood and extends down to the bottom of the bodywork, a common detail on miniature racing car models. The wheels are also carefully sketched, suggesting the attention paid to the fidelity of proportions and the spirit of the model cars of the period.
The rectangular paper support has a slightly creased and yellowed appearance. No text, logo, or reference number is visible on the exposed part of the document. The ensemble evokes a preparatory work or a sketch by an enlightened amateur or model maker, typical of manual design practices before the era of computer-aided design.

Did you know? Scalextric circuits, which appeared in the 1950s, revolutionized miniature car racing with their electric tracks and car models inspired by major competitions. Dinky Toys, meanwhile, became synonymous with die-cast metal miniature cars, highly prized after the war for their realism and robustness.
