Metal plate 6th National Expo Orange 1981 Vidal PH retro vintage Vaucluse
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This antique metal plaque features a characteristic ogival shape, with a rounded top pierced with a hole for attachment. The visible side displays an authentic patina, with oxidation marks and age-related wear, typical of commemorative exhibition plaques. The surface is embossed with a stylized coat of arms depicting plant motifs and an element evoking a mountain or landscape, as well as several engraved inscriptions.
The plaque is clearly dated "1981" on the sides of the central coat of arms. At the top, the inscription "S.M.A ORANGE" identifies the location and probably the organizer of the event, located in the Vaucluse department, in Provence. In the center, the mention "6e EXPO NAT PH" indicates that it is a commemorative piece from the 6th National Exhibition (probably of philately or horticulture, given the floral coat of arms), organized in Orange.
At the bottom, the name "VIDAL" is inscribed, followed by "CRETTE ANGLAISE", suggesting the name of the participant, exhibitor or an awarded variety at the exhibition. All inscriptions are clearly legible, and the plaque maintains a beautiful homogeneity despite the traces of time. The reverse side is not visible in the photo.
The dominant color is a reddish-brown with coppery reflections, with a granular texture typical of molded metal objects for this type of use. The well-defined relief and retro typography visually place this object in the aesthetic of the 70s-80s.
This type of plaque was generally intended to be attached to a cage, stand, or base during poultry, horticultural, or animal exhibitions, to distinguish an award, participation, or ranking. Its antique appearance and regional origin give it a true vintage and decorative character.

Did you know? Commemorative plaques from agricultural or animal competitions and exhibitions were very common in France in the 20th century. They were often made of cast metal and personalized for each event, with the name of the winner or the awarded variety, and today constitute valuable testimonies to local history and regional practices.
