Description

This antique plate is an advertising printing block, intended for the reproduction of advertisements or posters for an electric water heater. The object, rectangular with beveled upper corners, presents a finely engraved relief surface, characteristic of 20th-century typographical printing techniques.

The plate shows an illustrated scene: two stylized characters, an adult and a child, are depicted under a shower, explicitly evoking the use of a domestic water heater. The relief highlights the details of the face, hair, and water jet, as well as the mirror-image advertising text, consistent with the use of printing blocks. The main inscriptions are clearly visible: "Chauffe-eau électrique" (Electric water heater) and "Eau chaude électrique, eau chaude pas chère!" (Electric hot water, inexpensive hot water!) accompany a stylized diagram of the water heater on the left.

The plate's surface alternates between areas with a coppery appearance and darker portions, typical of an old patina and professional use. Several rivets or fixing points are visible around the edge, indicating its mounting on a press or support during its operation. The overall aesthetic is retro advertising, reinforced by the typography and naive iconography of the characters, suggesting production from the 1950s to 1970s, without being able to state it with certainty.

The mirror-image text, intended to be legible when printed, includes promotional and technical information, as well as the mention "FABRICATION FRANÇAISE" (FRENCH MANUFACTURING). The name "J. Dupuy" followed by "88 E2" appears at the bottom right, likely the name of the printer or the manufacturer of the block.

Condition

Used item sold as is. The plate shows a marked patina, traces of oxidation, and some visible signs of wear on the surface, consistent with its age and professional use. Details remain clearly legible despite the passage of time.
