AFW - Antique France Worldwide

Description

This lot includes a set of antique photographic plates, accompanied by two original Agfa Brovira "For your proofs" sleeves and a "Photo-Doc" advertising booklet (152, Rue de Rome, Paris). The plates, visible in the foreground, show the typical appearance of glass plate negatives or rigid supports, used in the first half of the 20th century. Several superimposed rectangular plates are visible, with a translucent dark appearance, allowing scenes or portraits not identifiable in the photo to be glimpsed through them.

The two side sleeves bear the inscriptions "Agfa Lupex" and "Agfa Brovira", with a characteristic orange insert and the blue and red diamond-shaped Agfa logo. There are also visible handwritten annotations ("19", "F", "76") in pencil, indicating historical use. The central booklet, "Photo-Doc", features a blue graphic typical of the 1930s-1950s, and promotes the sale of photographic supplies for "cameras of all brands".

The packaging, with its original envelopes and commercial booklet, evokes amateur or semi-professional photographic practice from the interwar period to the post-war era. The plates are stored in contemporary transparent sleeves, protecting the sensitive surfaces. The printed inscriptions on the Agfa sleeves specify that these are proof papers, an essential reference in analog photography of this period.

The overall appearance of the items shows an authentic patina: slight traces of use on the envelopes, slightly creased corners, but no major tears visible on the displayed side. The plates appear to be in good visual condition overall, without chips or cracks observable in this view.

This lot is a material testimony to old photographic techniques, with emblematic brands such as Agfa and period accessories. It is intended for those who wish to enrich a documentation on analog photography or explore the history of 20th-century photo equipment.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Wear and tear on paper sleeves (small marks, creased corners), plates visibly intact on the displayed side. The exact contents of the plates are not detailed here (scenes not identifiable in the provided photo).

Did you know? Agfa, founded in Germany at the end of the 19th century, was a major player in analog photography in Europe. The "Brovira" range refers to a high-quality baryta paper, very popular for printing black and white photographic proofs between the 1930s and 1970s.
