Vintage advertising keyring La Meuse France, J.-C. Rachet Montpon
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Old advertising keyring, probably from the 1960s-70s, visible in the photo. The object features a circular, pearlescent structure with a regularly embossed rim, typical of French promotional items from the second half of the 20th century. It is suspended from a short chain and a metal push-button snap ring, showing visible traces of oxidation on the displayed side.
The visible side of the keyring features an advertising sticker under glass or transparent plastic. The central inscription, in red and black, reads: "J.-C. RACHET Montpon-Ménestérol". In the lower part, on a yellow background, is the "la MEUSE" logo (a French alcoholic beverage brand) with stylized typography, as well as a partially legible red inscription, probably a slogan or additional address, typical of advertising items distributed by local merchants.
The medallion's edge displays a beaded or faceted effect, enhancing the keyring's decorative aspect. The item is presented on a black background, in what appears to be a light fabric-rimmed box, but only the keyring is included in the sale (no mention of the box in the advertisement).
This type of object, both utilitarian and promotional, was commonly offered by liquor stores, grocery stores, or representatives of regional alcohol brands in France to foster customer loyalty. Here, we see the association of a local merchant (J.-C. Rachet) and an emblematic alcohol company from the Northeast, La Meuse.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. Presence of oxidation and visible signs of wear on the metal part of the keyring, micro-scratches and light marks on the transparent surface of the medallion. The advertising print remains legible and generally well preserved. See photo for the exact condition of the displayed side.
Did you know? La Meuse is a historic French spirits brand, formerly renowned for its anise-flavored aperitifs and pastis, primarily distributed in Eastern and Southwestern France. Advertising keyrings were an important medium for local communication before the rise of mass advertising, with each retailer often personalizing the item with their name and city.
