Vintage Martillac keychain, regional costume figurine, old promotional item
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This antique keychain features a figurine of a woman in regional costume, typical of French folk tradition. The object is attached to a metal ring by a short chain, and it has a rectangular plaque on which the name "Martillac" is clearly inscribed in red letters. The figurine wears a full, dark red skirt, a black bodice, a light long-sleeved blouse, and black shoes, with simply styled blonde hair. The whole piece has a lacquered finish, giving the surface a glossy appearance.
The dynamic posture of the figurine, one hand on her hip and the other holding what appears to be a round accessory (probably bread or a galette, a typical detail in folk representations), evokes the regional promotional keychains distributed in the 1960s-1970s. The face is carefully painted, with accentuated features to enhance the expression and the naive style of the era.
The keychain stands out for its bold colors and its characteristic design of souvenir items distributed by local shops or during village festivals. The ring and chain have a patinated metallic appearance, reinforcing the impression of the object's age. No manufacturer's marking is visible on this side.
The inscription "Martillac" refers to the commune located in Gironde, known in particular for its wine-making traditions and regional heritage. This type of keychain was often offered as a promotional item or souvenir during local events or in tourist shops.
The figurine shows slight wear visible on certain painted parts, particularly on the arms and skirt, testifying to its age and handling over the years. No major chips or structural defects are observable on the visible side.
Condition

Did you know? Figurative keychains depicting French regional costumes were particularly popular from the 1950s to the 1970s. They were used to promote towns or local products and were mass-produced by several companies specializing in small promotional plastic items.
