Description

This antique doll from the French brand Babix, visible in the photo, most likely dates from the 1930s, as confirmed by the aesthetics of its painted face and the molded hairstyle typical of that period. The doll features an articulated structure in its arms and legs, allowing for various poses. Its head has short sculpted hair, light blonde in color, with a neat and regular fringe, characteristic of the childish style of the interwar period.

The face is hand-painted, with delicate features: blue eyes, thin eyebrows, slightly rosy cheeks, and a red mouth. The arms and hands, also molded and painted, have a stylized form, with separated and slightly curved fingers. The body has a smooth surface, in a uniform flesh tone, typical of antique French dolls of this era.

The legs are straight, robust, and end in dark red painted shoes, with beige socks adorned with stripes. A notable detail: a circular area of discoloration or wear is visible on the left leg (right side in the photo), indicating the object's age. The shoes show signs of rubbing and paint loss on the front.

The doll as a whole shows an aged patina, with various signs of wear, micro-scratches, and slight discoloration in places, particularly on the limbs. No clothing is visible in the photo, revealing the original structure and the articulation system of the arms and legs.

The doll is photographed face-on, standing, against a plain background, which allows for appreciation of all the sculpted and painted details. No visible markings or inscriptions on the part shown.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Presence of wear, rub marks, and minor imperfections due to age, notably discoloration on the left leg and paint loss on the shoes. The joints appear functional, but stability and range of motion cannot be guaranteed from the photo alone.

Did you know? Babix dolls, made in France in the 1930s, were renowned for their sturdiness and childish design. They were often produced with molded and hand-painted faces, which gives them an authentic charm today and a special place in the history of French toys.
