This Russian doll, also known as a matryoshka or babushka, is presented here in a hand-painted version, characteristic of the traditional style. The visible side shows a doll with a smiling face, expressive blue eyes, and red hair, wearing a green polka-dotted scarf around the top of her head. The background of the face is light beige, outlined by a wide green border. The entire decoration is made with bright and contrasting colors, mainly green, red, yellow, blue, and black.

The main motif, visible on the lower part, consists of large stylized red flowers, enhanced with yellow and green touches, typical of Slavic iconography. The leaves and scrolls are rendered in solid blocks and black lines, giving the whole a naive yet expressive look. The doll rests on a circular base painted red.

The artisanal style of the craftsmanship is evident, with slightly irregular lines, indicative of manual work. No logo, signature, or mark is visible on the exposed side. The object shows a light patina, particularly on the upper part, suggesting decorative use or a certain age, without revealing any major defects or visible chips on the photographed surface.

The doll's shape is typical of matryoshkas, with a rounded body, widened at the base, tapering towards the top. The facial expression, colors, and floral decoration evoke Russian folklore and the popular imagery associated with these iconic objects.

The doll is photographed placed on a windowsill, surrounded by old books and patinated wood, which highlights its authentic and timeless character. No mechanism or opening is visible in the provided photo.

Condition: Used item, sold as is. Slight traces of patina and small signs of use visible, with no apparent chips on the exposed side. The colors remain vibrant and the decoration well-preserved.

Did you know? Russian matryoshka dolls appeared in Russia at the end of the 19th century, inspired by Japanese toys. Their name comes from the female name "Matriona", a symbol of motherhood and fertility in Slavic culture. Traditionally, each matryoshka contains several dolls of decreasing size, hand-painted with regional motifs.
