Description

This antique straight razor features a straight blade with a patinated appearance and a partially legible signature or inscription on the tang ("PARIS"). The classic rectangular blade shows visible signs of use and surface oxidation, characteristic of old, used pieces. The handle has a checkered pattern finish, probably metallic in appearance, with a visible rivet at the pivot point. The whole is presented in an elegant, rigid case covered in burgundy velvet, the interior of which is shaped to hold the razor securely and protect the blade.

The contrast between the blade's muted sheen and the deep velvet of the case highlights the object's retro character. The elongated and thin shape of the straight razor is typical of models used for traditional shaving in the early 20th century and up to the 1950s. The visible part of the handle shows a regular texture, while the blade displays uniform wear, reinforcing the authenticity of the ensemble.

The "PARIS" engraving on the tang suggests a French origin, but no precise mark is fully legible on the visible part of the photo. The object, by its presentation and finish, is suitable for traditional shaving or display in a retro cabinet. The well-fitting velvet case indicates particular care taken in preserving this vintage razor.

The razor is photographed in a semi-open position, allowing observation of the junction between the blade and the handle, as well as the quality of the original polish, now dulled by time. No additional decoration is visible on the blade or handle, apart from the checkered texture and the engraving on the tang.

Condition

Used item sold as is. The blade shows visible signs of oxidation and micro-scratches. The handle and case show signs of use consistent with the object's age. The opening mechanism appears functional in the visible part.

Did you know? The straight razor, also known as "cut-throat razor," was the reference shaving tool in Europe until the appearance of the safety razor in the early 20th century. Models stamped "Paris" were often produced in major French cutlery basins, renowned for the quality of their steel and their artisanal finish.
