Ancient academic journal Conférencia 1921 vintage retro annals
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot features an original copy of the academic journal "Conférencia – Journal de l’Université des Annales", 15th year, number 11, dated May 15, 1921. The visible cover, made of matte cream paper, displays a prominent typographic title "CONFERENCIA", followed by "Journal de l’Université des Annales", topped by the name of the general director, Yvonne Sarcey. A central illustration depicts the façade of the "Université Annales" building in an engraving style, typical of early 20th-century educational publications.
The elegant and restrained layout offers a clear hierarchy of information: issue number, precise date, detailed table of contents, and sale price ("Le N° 1 Franc"). The table of contents announces lectures and literary texts on 18th-century theatre, intimate poetry, artificial feeding, and works by great authors such as Sainte-Beuve, Verlaine, Sully Prudhomme, and André Rivoire. The visible sections attest to a rich academic and cultural content, characteristic of the spirit of the Annales during this period.
The dark brown letterpress printing is sharp and well-preserved on the photographed front face. No major defects, tears, or stains are apparent on the exposed cover. The corners are slightly rounded, indicating careful handling over time. The matte, presumably uncoated, paper shows a slight vintage patina, without visible weakening in the shown area.
At the bottom of the page, subscription and price information (for France and abroad), as well as the publisher's address "5, rue La Bruyère, Paris," are clearly printed, reinforcing the authenticity of this period periodical. The mention "Tous droits réservés" (All rights reserved) and the list of covered themes add valuable documentary insight for historians or bibliophiles.
Condition
This antique academic journal is pre-owned and sold as is. The visible cover is clean, with no apparent tears or stains; slight patina and very slightly rounded corners. The interior and spine are not visible in the photo.
