Description

This old paperback is a detective novel titled "Du mouron à se faire," shown here in a softcover edition marked by time. The book features a characteristic central illustration: a determined-looking man points a weapon through a stylized keyhole, within a circular frame. At the top, the title "DU MOURON À SE FAIRE" appears in large red letters, while "Commissaire SAN-ANTONIO" is at the bottom, on a red background, followed by the publisher "Éditions Fleuve Noir."

The cover is predominantly dark purple, contrasted by red and white text. The typography, graphics, and illustration style are typical of popular French detective novels from the mid-20th century. The spine of the book, clearly visible, shows signs of wear and creases, indicating frequent handling and age. The overall appearance suggests a compact format, characteristic of paperbacks from that era.

The visual also shows the illustrator's signature at the bottom right of the central image, though it is difficult to read here. Significant signs of wear are noticeable: blunted corners, cracks and scuffs on the cover, as well as vertical and horizontal fold marks. These signs attest to prolonged use, reinforcing the vintage and authentic character of this copy.

On the cover, part of a cigarette pack with the inscription "BERG" is also visible, an element often present in crime novels to highlight the police and realistic atmosphere of the story. No other details are visible on the exposed side, as the back cover and interior are not shown.

This novel, by San-Antonio, is part of the great French detective series and is appealing for its retro aesthetic, its patina, and its iconic illustration of the genre.

Condition

The book is used and sold as is. It shows numerous visible signs of wear on the cover: scratches, marked creases, scuffs, damaged corners, and slight tears. The overall structure remains solid and legible, but the patinated appearance confirms its age and authenticity.

Did you know? The San-Antonio series, created by Frédéric Dard in 1949, profoundly influenced French detective novels with its humor, popular language, and fast pace. The early editions from Fleuve Noir are now prized for their graphic style and the iconic representation of Commissioner San-Antonio on the covers.
