AFW - Antique France Worldwide

Authentic antique satchel, typical of professional or personal accessories from the mid-20th century, here in a version with a classic metal clasp. The object features a flexible rectangular shape, characterized by generous gussets and a rigid silver-plated metal top frame, equipped with a double-ball clasp, very representative of the 1950s-60s. This robust and easy-to-handle snap closure system was commonly used on satchels and purses of that era.

The visible surface of the bag displays dark brown leather with a slightly grainy appearance, marked by a noticeable patina and some signs of wear, testifying to regular use over the decades. The deep hue of the leather contrasts elegantly with the metal frame, which has a matte finish, punctuated by some marks of oxidation or superficial scratches related to time. The central part of the clasp is reinforced by a stitched leather piece, enhancing the overall solidity and adding a touch of vintage character.

The entire front face shows natural pleating of the leather, typical of gusseted models without rigid lining. No logo or brand appears on the visible part, which corresponds to the functional sobriety of utilitarian accessories from the 50s-60s. The peripheral stitching, visible on the front, is regular and robust in appearance. The object rests on a flat surface, revealing its wide base and its ability to stand upright.

This type of satchel was often used as a briefcase, doctor's bag, or transport accessory for personal belongings, thanks to its wide opening and solidity. Its sober and timeless line, combined with the perceived quality of the thick leather, makes it a representative example of retro utilitarian design from the 20th century.

The satchel is pre-owned and sold as is, with visible signs of use, marks, and patina on both the leather and the metal.

Did you know? The double-ball clasp, also called "kiss lock", boomed in the 1920s and then became a standard on European satchels and purses until the 60s, for its reliability and quick one-handed opening.
