Description

This is a small handcrafted sculpture of African origin, made of bronze using traditional techniques. The object depicts a stylized human figure, standing on a thick circular base, with the right arm raised and the left hand holding a staff or scepter. The head is elongated and features an angular face, with accentuated features and a pointed forehead. The limbs are deliberately disproportionate, giving the whole a naive and expressive look typical of some traditional African productions.

The bronze surface has a matte patina, with golden and brown nuances, accentuating the relief of the modeling. The details of the face, fingers, and staff are deliberately schematic, evoking a primitive or tribal style. The right hand, open and raised, seems to be saluting or blessing, while the overall pose suggests a ritual or symbolic gesture.

The circular base, thick and irregular, is integral to the figure: it ensures the stability of the piece and bears visible traces of the casting. The ensemble shows entirely handmade work, with irregularities and asperities characteristic of lost-wax casting, a method commonly used for African bronzes.

The dominant color is that of patinated bronze, with some visible oxidation marks and wear, particularly on the reliefs, which accentuates its ancient and authentic appearance. No complementary decor, inscription, or mark is visible on the photographed side.

This handcrafted statuette can serve as a decorative figurine, an ethnic art object, or a curiosity for a display case or an office. Its singular form and expressive style make it a characterful element for African-inspired or eclectic interior decoration.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Shows signs of wear, natural patina, and irregularities related to handcrafted manufacturing.

Did you know? The lost-wax technique, widely used in West Africa, consists of modeling a wax shape, which is then covered with clay. After firing, the wax melts and makes way for the poured bronze. This ancestral process allows each piece to be made uniquely, with details and finishes specific to each artisan.
