This old religious painting depicts a Crucifixion scene, with Christ on the cross and a female figure at his feet, probably the Virgin Mary, in a classic composition of Christian iconography. The work is signed "G. Nellio" at the bottom right, a signature visible on the front. The scene is topped with an "I.N.R.I." cartouche at the top of the cross, a traditional detail in Western sacred art.

The painting features a sober figurative style, with matte colors and dominant shades of gray, brown, ochre, and green. The background evokes a hilly landscape, with some buildings sketched in the background, while the cloudy sky accentuates the gravity of the scene.
