Description

This lot consists of nine old French postage stamps, all canceled, presented on an album page. The majority of these stamps feature the famous Sower figure, an emblematic motif of French philately, recognizable by its female character sowing broadcast, typical of early 20th century issues. The stamps are distributed in several visible face values, including 10c, 50c, and 90c, with a predominance of reddish-orange colors for the most common ones and a bright blue example for the 90 centimes value.

Each stamp bears the "F.M." surcharge, meaning "Franchise Militaire" (Military Franking), indicating their use was reserved for the French military administration. The surcharges are clearly printed in black and remain well visible on each copy. There are also period postmarks, some of which are partially legible, attesting to their actual circulation.

The 10-centime stamps feature the lined Sower motif, with red to orange shades, and the words "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" and "POSTES" at the top and bottom. The 50-centime value appears on two red and one orange copy, also surcharged "F.M." and canceled. The 90-centime stamp, blue, stands out for its vibrant color and its identical motif to the series.

The perforations are generally regular, typical of issues from this period, although slight irregularities due to use and age can be observed. The colors remain quite vivid despite the passage of time, which is appreciated for this type of lot intended for specialized philately.

A square-shaped, beige-colored stamp also bears the "F.M." surcharge and a well-marked handstamp. This less common stamp adds to the diversity of the lot. The set offers a representative overview of the Semeuse series surcharged "F.M.", prized for the variety of its administrative and military uses.

Condition

The stamps are used and show traces of cancellation, slight handling marks, and wear and tear from use, particularly visible on the edges and perforations. The colors remain well preserved. The set is sold as is.
