Vintage Jan Coogo Starcrow Starzinger PB-46 Chogokin metal toy spaceship
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This toy depicts a spaceship from the Starzinger series, identifiable by the inscriptions "JAN COOGO" on the canopy and "STARCROW" on the right side wing. It is a faithful reproduction of the Star Crow spaceship piloted by the character Jan Coogo, model PB-46, related to the Chogokin range. The piece features an aesthetic typical of Japanese toys from the 1970s-1980s, with a brightly and contrastingly colored body: predominantly black, enhanced with yellow and red patterns, and silver details on the reactors and weapons.
The cockpit canopy is tinted with translucent amber plastic, allowing a glimpse of the interior without precise visibility of the cockpit. The nose of the ship is elongated, streamlined, while the side wings are short, equipped with visible yellow projectiles or accessories. Two cylindrical silver reactors are mounted at the rear, adding to the retro-futuristic look of the whole. The dorsal fin bears the number "1" on a black background with a yellow trim, a characteristic element of the Star Crow spaceship.
The toy's surface displays a lacquered finish with a metallic appearance, typical of Chogokin models, even if the precise material is not explicitly named in the photo; however, the mention "Chogokin" in the keywords indicates the presence of die-cast metal according to the tradition of this range. The stickers and markings are clearly visible on the front, wings, and canopy, adding an authentic touch to the overall piece.
The object is presented resting on a wooden surface, photographed from a slight high angle, which allows appreciating almost the entire upper part and left side of the spaceship. No character is visible inside the cockpit. The painted details and stickers are well preserved on the visible side, with no major chips or pronounced wear marks in this view. The presence of removable elements or mechanisms cannot be determined from this photo alone.
This toy is a striking example of vintage Japanese licensed productions, combining colorful design, robustness, and details faithful to the anime. The finishes and the model inscription make it an iconic piece of the Starzinger universe.
Condition
Used item sold as is, with minor signs of use visible on the surface (see photo). The colors and markings remain clear and legible. Only the top and left side are visible in the image; other unshown sides cannot be described.
Did you know? The Chogokin range, launched by Popy (Bandai) starting in 1974, revolutionized robot and vehicle toys in Japan through the use of die-cast metal and the faithfulness of reproductions inspired by animated series. The Star Crow, Jan Coogo's spaceship, is one of the iconic models linked to the "Starzinger" anime, first broadcast in 1978 in Japan.
