Description

This vintage voltmeter, typical of electrical measuring instruments from the mid-20th century, features a circular dial protected by a glass (or glass-like) front and a case with a patinated metallic finish. The graduated dial ranges from -240 to +240 volts, a common range for voltage testing devices of that era. The scale is printed in an arc, with a central needle (missing or not visible), and the inscription "V" in the center, denoting the voltmeter function.

The lower part of the dial reveals an internal mechanism, protected by a small hexagonal plastic or glass window, allowing observation of the coil and adjustment screws. The casing rests on two inclined metal feet, characteristic of tabletop voltmeters used in laboratories or workshops. The upper part features a circular handle, accompanied by an old sheathed cable, whose insulation is partially worn, revealing an oxidized metallic core.

The dial surface shows authentic wear: traces of oxidation, scratches, discolored areas, and marks of time, testifying to real use in a technical environment. The numbers, markers, and unit of measurement remain partially legible despite the advanced patina. No brand name or logo is visible on the front face.

The overall appearance evokes a raw industrial aesthetic, with shades ranging from silver-grey to patinated beige, enhanced by the irregular texture of aged metal. The object is presented standing on a mineral surface, which highlights its potential decorative purpose in addition to its original function.

This antique voltmeter stands out for its compact form, functional design, and the authenticity of its visible materials. It is a faithful testament to the electrical instrumentation of the 1950s, appreciated today for its retro charm and decorative value in an industrial, workshop, or curiosity cabinet-style interior.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Shows traces of oxidation, significant wear on the dial, scratches, and a partially damaged cable. Functionality not tested.

Did you know? Analog voltmeters of this period often used a moving coil system, where current caused a needle to pivot over a graduated scale. These devices were essential for voltage control in laboratories, workshops, and industries, long before the advent of digital multimeters.
