Handwritten administrative document dated 1821, written in brown ink on antique paper, with printed fiscal stamps and neat cursive handwriting. An early 19th-century French document with a beautiful graphic presence.

Description

Old 19th-century administrative handwritten document, dated July 20, 1821, and related to Saint-Étienne, Loire department. The sheet features regular, ample, and decorative cursive handwriting, characteristic of administrative and notarial acts of this period.

The antique paper retains several visible fiscal marks, including a 75-centime stamp with an allegorical figure and a royal stamp with fleurs-de-lis bearing the mention "50 c. en sus loi de 1816" (50 c. additional law of 1816). The document also includes signatures, accounting annotations, marginal notes, and original folds related to its administrative use.

The whole offers decorative and documentary interest: beautiful ink calligraphy, dense composition, printed fiscal stamps, and traces of filing on the back.

Context

Dated 1821, this document belongs to the period of the French Restoration, under the reign of Louis XVIII. The visible fiscal stamps and legal mentions are part of the administrative practice of the early 19th century, where acts written on stamped paper formalized transactions, declarations, obligations, or procedures.

The presence of Saint-Étienne and the Loire department places the document in a precise local context, within an administration still largely handwritten, before the widespread use of modern printed forms.

Condition

Used antique document, sold as is. Yellowed paper with natural patina, conservation folds, small stains, rub marks, ink marks, and slight edge wear. Some small tears or marginal losses visible, consistent with the age and handling of the sheet. The writing remains largely legible, and the whole retains good documentary integrity.
