Handwritten notarial deed from 1797, during the Directory period, written in ink on old paper, relating to a partition and succession. 20-page archive notebook, with period cursive writing and visible Republican stamp.

Description

Administrative and notarial document from the late 18th century, presented as a handwritten notebook on old paper. The whole retains a beautiful archival presence: sewn leaves, textile retaining ribbons, brown ink, numerous handwritten lines, and numbered mentions related to the inventory and partition.

The date indicated corresponds to 6 Brumaire Year VI, i.e., October 27, 1797. The text concerns a notarial deed of partition and succession, with names of parties, enumerations of assets, mentions of sums, and legal formulations characteristic of notarial practice during the revolutionary period.

A circular Republican stamp is visible on some pages, adding additional documentary interest. The document includes 1 paper notebook, 20 pages, according to the annotation on the conservation folder.

Context

Dated Year VI of the French Republic, this manuscript falls within the administrative context of the Directory, a period during which civil and notarial acts still commonly used the Republican calendar. This type of document testifies to the continuity of notarial practices after the Revolution, particularly for successions, partitions, inventories, and family transactions.

Condition

Used antique document, sold as is. Yellowed paper with signs of use, foxing, ink stains, creases, small tears, and visible marginal wear, consistent with the age and handling of a late 18th-century manuscript. The retaining ribbons are present, with natural wear. The writing remains largely present on the leaves.
