Handwritten administrative deed dated 1760, related to a marriage in Saint-Étienne en Forez, written in brown ink on old paper and preserved with its red binding ribbon.

Description

18th-century handwritten document, written in Old Regime legal French, with broad and regular cursive handwriting. The deed opens with the notarial formula "Before the royal notary..." and concerns a marriage, with mentions of parties, witnesses, conditions, and obligations.

The document consists of several handwritten sheets, bound together by a red textile ribbon. An old fiscal stamp printed at the top, associated with the Généralité de Lyon, can be seen, as well as signatures and initials at the bottom of the page. A later annotation on the folder indicates: "1760 (January 12) in St Étienne" and mentions the marriage.

Context

Dated January 12, 1760, this deed is part of 18th-century French notarial practice. Under the Ancien Régime, marriage contracts or deeds notably framed contributions, dowries, family obligations, and patrimonial provisions. The mention of Saint-Étienne en Forez links the document to a regional administrative and notarial context, then dependent on the legal and fiscal customs of its time.

Condition

Old document sold as is. Yellowed paper with foxing, handling marks, folds, edge wear, and small fragilities consistent with its age. Ink generally well-preserved, with variations in legibility depending on the areas. Red ribbon preserved, with wear and fraying. Handle with care.
