Description

This antique stock certificate, issued by the Compagnie Générale des Tabacs, is an authentic financial document from the 1920s. The visible side features a neat blue print on cream paper, typical of securities from this period. The main title, "Compagnie Générale des Tabacs," is surrounded by an ornamental frame richly decorated with plant and floral motifs, with a central medallion illustrating a rural landscape, emblematic of the graphic style of interwar financial documents.

The certificate bears the inscription "Action Privilégiée de Cent Francs au Porteur" (Bearer Preferred Share of One Hundred Francs) and the unique number 098157, clearly legible in the center. The handwritten signatures and red cancellation stamps visible on the coupons attest to the document's authenticity and historical use. The company is indicated as having its head office in Paris, which reinforces the heritage dimension of this security.

The lower part of the document consists of a sheet of detachable coupons, all numbered and stamped with the same serial number. Each coupon bears the mentions "Compagnie Générale des Tabacs," "Action Privilégiée," as well as red dated stamps, proof of their passage through the financial circuit of the time. The whole is distinguished by rectilinear printing and period typography, with delicate floral frames and complex engraving details.

The document displays a beautiful harmony of blue-gray tones, with contrasts provided by the red stamps and black text. The general condition, visible in the photo, shows marked creases and slight traces of handling, typical of old stock certificates that have circulated. No chips or major tears are visible on the presented side, making it an interesting decorative or historical reference object.

This type of bearer share, characteristic of French financial securities from the early 20th century, attracts attention due to its elaborate graphics and its interest in the industrial and economic history of France. The mention "entirely paid up" as well as the various visible signatures and seals add to the authenticity and heritage value of the document.

Did you know? Bearer shares like this one were commonly used in France until the mid-20th century. Their particularity lay in the anonymity of the holder, which facilitated transfer but was gradually abandoned for reasons of financial transparency. The Compagnie Générale des Tabacs, founded at the end of the 19th century, played a major role in the industrialization of the tobacco sector in France.
